Skincare for Acne

Now we shall move along to the next step, skincare. Skin care regimen consists, mainly, of three essential steps: cleaning, toning and moisturizing.

1- Cleaning. Use a good cleanser that is made specifically to treat acne. Wash your face twice a day or maximally three times a day. If you felt like your skin has some dirt on wash it with water only. Remember to read the ingredients and know which one is the active ingredient. Salicylic acid is not as harsh as benzoyl peroxide on skin. A natural cleanser is oatmeal. Take a pea size of the cleanser or a handful of oatmeal and then rub it on your wet face. Use lukewarm water to help open up your pores.
2- Remember to pat dry your face and not rubbing it as it can irritate your skin and leads to acne. Before drying you can give yourself a nice splash of cold water to close your pores
3- Toning. Toning helps exfoliate the dead skin and make sure that your skin is squeaky clean and it helps closes your pores. Just use a cotton pad or a cotton ball with some toner on it and rub it on your dry skin. Do not wash it off; just leave it on your skin. A natural toner is rose water; it is cheap, effective and affordable in almost every place on the planet.
4- Moisturizing. Although it looks silly, but this step is important. You might think that your skin is already oily so you do not need to put on a moisturizer, but that is wrong. Choose an oil-free moisturizer that suits your skin. For the daytime moisturizer, use one with SPF. Preferably with SPF 30 or higher.

Cons :
1- It makes your skin sweaty and greasy (the cream)

The series consists of :

General tips on acne (2)

Here are some tips to fight acne (part 2):

1- Omega 3 fatty acids. Whether you take it as a supplement, or add foods like walnuts, avocados, flaxseed oil, and salmon into your diet, you should know that these fats control the production of sebum and there is no end to their benefits.
2- Cleanse twice a day to remove the oils, the dirt, the sweat, the smog, the makeup ... etc.
3- Exfoliate. Use a decent exfoliator once or twice a week to remove the dead layer of skin that can cause clogged pores. Preferably, choose a gentle exfoliator designed for your face and not the body.
4- De-germ your cell phone. Several studies have shown that cell phones are hotbeds for germs. Throughout any given day your phone can be exposed to thousands of bacteria, which spread from your fingers (via texting) to your face (via talking) and vice versa. In addition, the heat produced by your phone can aid in the multiplication of bacteria. Yuck! To keep the germs from landing on your face, wipe the surface of your phone with a little hand sanitizer each day.
5- Style your hair smart. Pomade acne is a common condition characterized by breakouts caused by hair-care products including conditioner, shampoo, gel, and hairspray. This form of acne occurs when the oils from styling products seep into skin, usually around the hairline, and trap acne-causing bacteria in pores. To combat, apply the hair products before you wash your face to wash away any pimple-producing residue.

General tips on acne

Here are some tips to fight acne (part 1):
1- Sleep 6-8 a day at night. According to a study in Sleep, the risk of psychological stress increases by 14% for every hour of sleep you lose a night. Stress is not only bad for your body; it is also bad for your skin. Relieve yourself by having a good night sleep. However, do not overdo it, as it is bad for health as well.
2- Go easy on sugar. The more sugar you eat, the more insulin your body excrete. Moreover, insulin causes inflammation on the cellular level, therefore, causes pimples.
3- Move your body. Exercising causes you to sweat; therefore, it helps your body flush out the toxins. It also increases circulation and relieve stress. However, remember to shower immediately afterwards otherwise the sweat will irritate your skin.
4- Drink eight glasses of water a day. As it detoxifies your body.
5- It is important to wear SPF every time you are in the sun. Sun emits harmful UV rays which can causes skin damage leading to formation of acne. Choose sunscreen with at least SPF 30. Read the ingredients list on the back of your sunscreen, and if you are acne-prone, look for the lighter, non-occlusive chemical ingredients like avobenzone, oxybenzone, methoxycinnamate, or octocylene. Sunscreens containing zinc oxide or titanium oxide tend to be thicker and sometimes more likely to block pores and aggravate acne-prone skin. If you have acne, look for “noncomedogenic” on the label, which means it should not clog your skin’s pores.

Acne Diet! What to eat and what to not.

Well! First thing, the diet. Yes, we cannot deny the fact that what we eat affects our skin. After all, you are what you eat. Therefore, I will be showing you a list of what you should and should not eat.
You should avoid these foods at all costs, no matter what:

2      1-     Food with high rates of saturated fats. As you should know not all oils are bad for you, there are good fats as well like olive oil, and since the oil glands on our faces just extract the oil we eat, oils that can clog your pores will go eventually to your pores
2      2-     Food with high sodium levels. Although there is no proof that sodium can lead to acne formation , it is better to stay away from it since it can cause you a buffy face and dark circles
3      3-     Sugary food. Yes, sugar contributes in acne formation. Why? Well, that is a way long story.
4      4-     Spicy food. You should limit your intake of spice since spicy food can be irritant to your skin and can cause pimples.
5      5-     Caffeine beverages.
6      6-     Processed and fast food.

On the contrary, there are foods that can help relief acne:

1      1-     Drink green tea every day three times a day. They are packed with antioxidants
2      2-     Eat a lot of vegetables and fruits. They contain a lot of fibers and vitamins that are good for your skin and your body.
2      3-     Drink eight glasses of water every day. It helps flush out the toxins.
